I have always enjoyed activities that serve as an outlet for creativity. I was lucky to be introduced to pottery in 2017 by my best friend who purchased a one-time wheel throwing class at Radius Community Art Studio in SE Portland, OR. I immediately wanted to learn everything I could about pottery. (See picture commemorating this event)
I love the process of creating something new; to try a new technique and not worry about making mistakes. As Bob Ross says there are no mistakes, just happy accidents. I can’t tell you how many of my favorite pieces have stemmed from happy accidents or from just messing around with fun techniques!
For me, ceramics have always been about community. I have met the most amazing people, including my husband Jeff (@pixelsandpebbles), through community art. I deeply appreciate that pottery is unlike so many other arts, in that potters are often quite open about their processes and are open to sharing and teaching others how to do what they do. We are all learning and growing together, as humans and as artists.
Pottery is meditational for me. There is something therapeutic about watching a wheel spin round and round as you create a piece out of a mass of clay. The resulting products I make are designed to offer the user a similar sense of relaxation. I invite you to enjoy these everyday items while you pour and sip your coffee, toss a fresh garden salad, or pick a fresh bundle of flowers.
